TUNISIA, DESERT AND HERITAGE
Indicative itinerary subject to changes until departure date
DAY 1 – TUNIS / HAMMAMET
Departure for Tunis. Arrival and transfer to Hammamet. Dinner (for those arriving at the hotel before 8pm) and accommodation.
DAY 2 – HAMMAMET / EL JEM / SFAX
Breakfast. Departure for El Jem to visit its famous Roman amphitheatre, declared a World Heritage Site and currently in better condition than the famous Roman colosseum and mosaic museum. Lunch and departure for Sfax. Dinner and accommodation.
DAY 3 – SFAX / MATMATA / DOUZ
Breakfast. Departure for Matmata, an ancient Berber village where you'll find its famous “troglodyte houses” which offer a different and peculiar passage from what you'd expect in the country and which served as a film set for one of the most famous sagas in history: Star Wars. Lunch and on to Temerzet, with a brief stop to take photographs. Arrival in Douz, the “gateway to the desert”. Dinner and accommodation.
DAY 4 – DOUZ / TOZEUR
Breakfast. Visit of the charming village of Douz and departure for one of the most spectacular natural sites in southern Tunisia, the Chott el Jerid salt lake. This immense salt lake projects an optical effect that distorts objects on the horizon, offering travelers a unique view. Continue to Tozeur, the capital of palm trees, for lunch. In the afternoon, visit Nefta and its wonderful “La Corbeille” oasis. Dinner and accommodation.
DAY 5 – TOZEUR
Breakfast. Morning at leisure, during which you can take an optional excursion in 4x4 vehicles to the mountain oases of Chevika, Tamerza and the Ong el Jmel dunes, near the city. Lunch. In the afternoon, a visit to the charming old town of Tozeur and time at leisure in one of the local markets, where you can buy handicrafts and souvenirs from the country. Dinner and accommodation.
DAY 6 – TOZEUR / KAIROUAN
Breakfast. Departure for Kairouan. On the way, stop at the Roman city of Sbeitla and visit the ruins of Sufeitula. Arrival in Kairouan. For Sunnis, it is the fourth holiest city in Islam, after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. A World Heritage Site, visit its imposing mosque, the Aghlabite cisterns and the Barber's Mausoleum. Lunch. In the afternoon, a visit to a carpet factory and time at leisure to stroll around the medina. Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.
DAY 7 – KAIROUAN / TUNIS / SIDI BOU SAID / HAMMAMET
Breakfast. Departure for the capital, Tunis. Visit of the Medina with its unique streets and markets. Visit to the Bardo Museum. Lunch. In the afternoon, visit of Carthage, the ancient Roman and Punic capital and one of the largest Roman sites in the country, with a visit to the Punic ports and the Baths of Antoninus. Continue to Sidi Bou Said, the charming little village in shades of white and blue that will transport you to another era and where you can stroll around and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere it offers. Transfer to Hammamet, dinner and accommodation.
DAY 8 – HAMMAMET / TUNIS
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.
Remarks:
- The nights of the 6th and 7th may be spent in Hammamet instead of Kairouan and in Tunis instead of Hammamet, respectively, for operational reasons, without affecting the included visits.
- Tourist tax: 3 dinars per person per night, to be paid directly on arrival at each hotel.
- The order of the itinerary and/or visits may be changed without affecting the total content of the program.
- During Ramadan, the country's main religious vacation period, from February 28 to March 30, 2025, the monuments will be subject to schedule changes and closures, which will be communicated as soon as possible.
