Day 2 Tunis / Utica / Bizerte
Breakfast. Departure to the center of Tunis to visit the Bardo National Museum, famous for its rich collection of mosaics and built on an ancient beylical castle in the heart of the old city of Tunis. After visiting the Bardo, leave the capital and head north to visit the site of Utica, an ancient Phoenician and Carthaginian city located near the mouth of the Medjerda River on the Mediterranean, between Carthage in the south and Bizerte in the north. It is the northernmost city in Africa, where lunch will be served at a local restaurant, followed by the rest of the day exploring the city with the guide. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 3 Bizerte Sesnene / Tabarka
Breakfast. Leaving Bizerte, continue along a road that crosses vast green fields, mountains, dams, and, from time to time, offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea. The first stop will be in Sejnene. Famous for its unique ceramic style and colors, this small village is internationally renowned for the clay designs made by its artisan women, an art that showcases Berber details through its structure and colors. Your next and final stop of the day will be Tabarka, a city colored not only by its nature and architecture, but also by its cultural heritage of Berber, Punic, Hellenistic, Roman, Islamic, Genoese, and Turkish origins. The city is dominated by a rock in the open sea, from which you can see all of Tabarka and its surroundings. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Tabarka, and the rest of the day will be spent visiting its fort and needle-shaped rocks that fall one on top of the other until they reach the sea, its old port, the village, and the local coral shops. Accommodation.
Day 4 Tabarka / Ain Drahem / Bulla Regia / Dougga / Uthina / Tunis
Breakfast. The day starts with a visit to Ain Drahem. Its name derives from the Roman language and describes the sulphurous hot springs where you can also see the ruins of the Roman baths. The next stop is Bulla Regia, a unique experience exploring the complete and well-preserved infrastructure of a Roman city and underground buildings that were once used by the Romans as elegant homes away from the heat. The next stop is another archaeological treasure in the area, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 as the best-preserved small Roman city in North Africa. Its main attractions are the Libyan-Punic mausoleum, the capitol, the theater, and the temples of Saturn and Juno Caelestis. Lunch in Dougga and continuation to the last archaeological stop, the site of Uthina, before heading to Tunis. Uthina is important for its half-excavated theater, which can seat 16,000 spectators. Dinner and accommodation.
