Day 1 Tunis / Hammamet

Arrival at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 2 Hammamet / Takrouna / El Djem / Matmata

Breakfast. Visit the Berber village of Zriba Olya, 300 meters above sea level. Afterwards, continuation to El Djem to visit the Roman Amphitheater, the second largest in the world after Rome's. Enjoy a Tunisian menu at a local restaurant and then continuation to the Berber village of Matmata, where you will spend the night in a unique hotel, similar to the village's authentic troglodyte dwellings. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 3 Matmata / Tataouine / Chenini / Djerba

Breakfast. Start with Tataouine, the capital of the Berber region in southern Tunisia. To understand Berber culture, it is important to consider their purpose in life. As the original inhabitants of the country, having been there from the beginning and before any other civilization arrived and began to invade their regions, the Berbers used the southern and central areas to escape from the Romans, then the Carthaginians, then the Arab civilizations that followed. For the most part, they chose remote areas where invaders would navigate and high-altitude locations, where they built their dwellings, usually on the ground and in a strategic location from which they could see their attackers approaching. There are around 150 Berber ksours between Matmata, Tataouine, and Chenini. Ksours, the plural of Ksar, is what the Berbers called their dwellings. Most of these sites can only be accessed by ATV, as they are perched on ridges like Chenini's Ksours and hanging on slopes like Old Guermassa. Some of these ksours were even used for the filming of the Star Wars movies, such as those in Ksar Haddada, consisting of 380 ghorfas, or rooms, located on the same level. After lunch at a local restaurant in Tataouine, continuation to Djerba. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 4 Djerba / Guellala / Djerba

Breakfast. Begin the day in the Berber village of Guellala, from the Berber name Iquallalen, which means potters and is known for pottery, an activity practiced for centuries and which defines the main economic base of the locals to this day. After lunch, you will be transported to a different culture located in Djerba, equally significant for its history, in the Jewish quarter, whose center is the El Ghriba Synagogue located in the village of Erriadh. There were once 20 synagogues in Erriadh, one of which is now a place of pilgrimage for many visitors from around the world. The synagogue is a modest building from the outside, but it has a fascinating interior, richly decorated with colorful windows and tiles and authentic, well-preserved furniture. It is fascinating to know that today Djerba is home to around 1,400 Jews, who live in harmony on the island alongside Muslims, united under the Tunisian heritage. Return to the hotel. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 5 Djerba / Kairouan / Tunis

Breakfast. Transfer to the Islamic capital of Tunisia, the city of Kairouan. You will begin with a visit to the Great Mosque of Kairouan, located in the middle of the medina and built by the Arab general Uqba Ibn Nafi in 670 AD. The site attracts thousands of local and international visitors for its magnificent architectural and spiritual value. After a stroll through the medina of Kairouan and a glimpse of local life, a tasting of freshly baked Tunisian pastries and a touch of authentic carpets, you will head to the Mausoleum of Sidi Sahbe. This complex is located outside the medina, on the site of the tomb of one of the Prophet's companions, Abu Zama'a al-Balawi, known as Sidi Sahbi. It includes a mausoleum, a madrasa, and several rooms. The mausoleum is popular and locals frequently visit it for blessings, ceremonies, and religious festivities. In the late afternoon, return to Tunis. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 6 Tunis

Breakfast. Guided tour of the Medina of Tunis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, which contains some 700 monuments, including palaces, mosques, mausoleums, madrasas, and fountains from the Almohad and Hafsid periods. The tour will last approximately 2 hours. Transfer to the airport (depending on your arrival and departure flights, the itineraries for the first and last days may vary, and lunch is included on the first or last day of the round trip).
